Byron girls’ soccer turns away Wingers 5-1

It was another win for the Byron girls’ soccer team. On Monday, September 18, the Bears, now sitting at 8-0-1 overall, upended Red Wing, 5-1. The Byron bunch scored a pair of first-half goals and three more in the final stanza. Byron Scoring: Lyndsey Mittelstadt, 1 goal; Ashlyn Rogne, 1 goal, 1 assist; Marissa Ellavsky, 1 goal; Carly Halder, 1 goal; Paige Halder, 1 goal, 2 assists. Goalie Cadence Loughran had 4 saves.
Byron, Lourdes battle to 0-0 tie
It’s generally believed that when two of the best match-up, something’s gotta give. But in the case of the
Byron Bears versus the Rochester Lourdes Eagles girls soccer game, nothing gave. Neither team could find pay-dirt in the Hiawatha Valley League showdown. The Eagles and Bears, two of the more highly regarded teams in the state, finished in a 0-0 tie at Rochester Regional Stadium on Thursday night, September 14.
Both teams entered with top-five state rankings, Byron in Class 2A, Lourdes in 1A. Both were also unbeaten, Byron at 7-0 and Lourdes 4-0-2. What jumped out most was all of the speed on the field, Lourdes led by twin juniors Anna Shedivy and Ella Shedivy, and Byron, by fellow track-and-field stars Paige Halder (senior) and younger sisters Carly Halder (sophomore). That speed has helped Byron have an especially explosive offense this season, averaging 5.6 goals per game.
But never had the Bears gone against anyone quite like Lourdes defensive wizard Anna Shedivy, certainly one of the fastest girls’ soccer players in the state. Shedivy showed off all of that juice time after time against the Bears. On at least three occasions, Shedivy dashed nearly 40 yards to cut off what were shaping up as golden scoring chances for Byron. She angled off Carly Halder twice, going hell bent to track her down. She did the same thing to Paige on another occasion. The Bears never could get past her. Alternatively, the Eagles could get nothing past Byron standout goalie Cadence Loughfran, who acted as an unwavering wall. The outcome was perhaps fitting, given the two teams’ talents and abilities, and it was definitely one for the ages.
Byron soccer ladies top K-M
The Byron girls soccer team took on friendly rival Kasson-Mantorville on Tuesday, September 12, and the Bears emerged victorious, by a final tally of 4-2.

Lady Cobras soccer at weekend tourney
Triton-Kenyon-Wanamingo/Hayfield’s girls soccer team competed in the Lake City Invitational, on Saturday, September 16. In an effort to gain more, valuable playing time, the Cobras fared pretty well, tying one game and dropping one. TKWH soccer girls lose two
The Triton-Kenyon/Wanamingo/Hayfield girls soccer team lost back-to-back games last week. On Monday, September 11, the girls fell to Plainview-Elgin-Millville, 0-9. They battled Cannon Falls on Tuesday, September 12, and lost, 1-4, to the Bombers. Triton/Kenyon-Wanamingo/Hayfield Stats: Ivette Mendoza, 1 assist; Romina Medina, 1 goal. Goalie Miley Dostal had 14 saves. In the PEM game, Alyssa Knudson had 16 saves in her first career start in goal.
