Byron boys’ soccer goes 2-1 on the week
Byron boys started the week out with two dominating games against Cannon Falls and Waseca, but they ran into a road block against Lourdes. First up was Monday night, September 11, versus Waseca, who was visiting Bear Stadium for the first time in a few years. In a commanding performance, Byron got on the board two minutes in, on a goal by Talon Henderson, the first of his ultimate hat trick on the night. Byron cruised with 3 goals in the first half and two in the second, for a 6-0 win. The Bears outshot Waseca, 12-2. Also scoring was Jaxon Boynton with two and Jackson Fink with one late in the game. Boynton also had an assist, as did Thomas Lambrecht, Fink and two by Ben Zimmerman. GK Jackson Ihrke had a quiet night, seeing only two shots.
Tuesday night, the team headed to Cannon Falls for a conference game. The Bears unleashed a barrage, beginning 20 seconds into the match, when Caden Fox pounded one in and the team did not look back, cruising to a 11-2 win. Talen Henderson, Jaxon Boynton and Caden Anderson all had two goals each and Scott Kreisher, JJ Sakaria, Ryan Hartman, and Liam Schick had one a piece. Braeden Miner, Schick, Boynton, Brady Boyken and Anderson all added assists. Shots were 21-3 in favor of Byron. GK Jackson Ihrke had 9 saves.
Thursday brought the third game of the week, versus conference foe Lourdes, played at Byron. Lourdes came out strong and scored twice in the opening 15 minutes, but Byron came back to tie it up by half-time on a long ball sent in by Aydan Tye and deflected in by Talon Henderson; and a Ryan Hartman shot from the top of the penalty box that made it past the GK. Brady Boyken assisted on the Hartman score. The second half started out even, but a deflected header by Lourdes went over Byron GK Jackson Ihrke’s out-stretched hand for the go-ahead goal. Lourdes added another one from a penalty kick and finished-up with a goal off a corner kick, sending the Bears packing, 5-2.
“Playing three games in four days took its toll, and it was nice to have a weekend off to rest up for three more games this week against Kasson-Mantorville, Winona and John Marshall. Our center back Ethan Hearn was crowned Homecoming King in festivities throughout the week,” Coach Dave Bahr commented.
