Arlene Christenson, 90, Kasson
Arlene Christenson, 90, died Sept. 7, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, where she had stayed for nearly two weeks.
Arlene was born Feb. 7, 1926, in rural Steele County to Martin and Mollie Wiek. She was baptized and confirmed in Aurora Lutheran Church in Havana Township near Owatonna. In 1943, she graduated from Owatonna High School.
On July 2, 1943, she married James Christenson of New Richland, Minn., where they farmed for many years. Following Jim’s later employment with IBM, she settled permanently with her family in Kasson.
Arlene was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and its Mary Circle since 1960. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and baking her famous pastries. Her love for the Minnesota Twins was only exceeded by her love for her family. Highlights of her life include a trip to Norway, time spent in Florida and family camping and fishing trips up north and out west. Arlene had a passion for conversation and coffee time with friends and family.
Survivors include a son James Jr. (Carol) of Duluth; three daughters, Carol (Jerry) Boyd and Mary Ann (James) Heiserman of Kasson and Joyce (Lenny) Jenson of Hayfield; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many other relatives. She is also survived by her dearest friend, Hilda Christenson of Cambridge, Minn. Her husband; her daughter Jean Ann and her three siblings; Leila, Bud and June; preceded her in death.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Fairview Care Center for their compassion and exceptional care. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson.
The funeral for Arlene Margaret (Wiek) Christenson was held on Sept. 13, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson. Reverends Dana O’Brien and Barb Streed officiated the service. The burial was held at Evergreen Cemetery near Mantorville.
