Prank Call Results In Accident
Two people were hospitalized and two cars extensively damaged in an accident that resulted from a prank telephone call here late Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Dale Walker and her five-year-old son Steven were taken by ambulance to the emergency room of a Rochester hospital where she was treated for a broken rib and Steven for cuts and lacerations. Both were released later Tuesday evening. Deputy Sheriff Curt Utpadel, driver of the second vehicle, was not injured.
The accident resulted when a prank call was placed with a telephone operator stating that a Kasson business place was being burglarized. The operator then contacted police and Utpadel was dispatched to answer the call. Mrs. Walker was traveling south on Mantorville Ave. And was struck by the deputy’s car while turning into the Walker driveway. Damage to the sheriff’s 1973 auto was estimated at $1,000.
At the time of the accident the Kasson police car was at a Rochester radio repair shop because of difficulties in radio reception and as a result the sheriff’s office was called. The prank call is being investigated by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department and Kasson Police.

Kinder Care added to Project Kids
Kinder Care is coming to the Project Kids School Age Care program! The Kasson-Mantorville School Board unanimously approved the opening of a Kinder Care segment as part of the Project Kids program. This half day, extended day option will be available for next year’s kindergarten students.
Kinder Care is a parent supported program, designed to complement your child’s kindergarten experience without duplicating it. Children will be transported to or from the K-M Learning Center where they will have the opportunity to play in the gym, eat hot lunch, do a variety of theme-based teacher led activities and just be kids. Kinder Care’s “out of school time” curriculum is designed to enrich the child’s school day and provide children with opportunities to express themselves, to be creative and to enjoy the fun and subtle learning that a variety of activities will provide.

Older worker opportunities now available in Dodge County
Older residents of Dodge County who are having difficulty finding a job have a local resource that might be able to help.
The Experience Works Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), a nonprofit organization operating in Minnesota, provided paid community service assignments at local public and non-profit organizations, training, referral to needed services, and job search assistance for eligible individuals. With updated skills, participants use their community service training as a springboard to permanent jobs with local employers.
The Experience Works SCSEP is currently accepting applications. Program applicants must be age 55 or older, unemployed, live in Dodge County, and have incomes of $14,588 per year or less for a family of one ($19,663 for family of two).
“In this difficult economy, many older Minnesotans are finding it necessary to find work,” says Teri Stepaniak, Minnesota state manager for Experience Works. “Unfortunately, finding a job can be especially difficult for older workers who have not looked for employment for some time or for those who been unsuccessful in their job hunt. Our program is a stepping stone for people desperate for work. We can provide immediate assistance and wages, for those who qualify for the SCSEP.”
