Adopt don’t shop

Most people have heard the old saying “a dog is a man's best friend.”
That saying is completely accurate.
I met my best friend when I was still living in St. James when I was covering a clear the shelter event at the local animal shelter.
A couple of my buddies that volunteer at the shelter were there helping with the event and one of them said that they were going to foster one of the puppies.
That puppy was Finn.
After she fostered him for a couple of weeks, I took on the task of babysitting Finn from time to time and also brought him to my place to stay over a few times.
And then it happened.
I realized I met my best friend.
I eventually decided to adopt Finn and, since then, we have been on many adventures together, and he’s been my best friend.
The backstory I was given for Finn was that he ran away from the farm that he lived on in rural Watonwan County and that his owners never came to pick him up.
After hearing his story, along with how cute and awesome he is, I knew that I needed to give him a good home, which lead me to adopting him.
My suggestion is that the next time you have the chance to adopt an animal to do so because you won’t just be giving them a better life, they will make your life better.
And chances are you may end up with a new best friend.
