Accused Dodge killer skips court hearing in Florida
No major developments came out of a brief court appearance last week for a Dodge County area grandmother who faces a possible death sentence in Florida.
The attorney for Lois Riess, 56, appeared for a case management hearing Oct. 31 in Lee County Florida. Samantha Syoen of the Florida State Attorney’s Office said Riess did not appear in court for the hearing.
Another case management conference hearing will take place in January.
Riess faces first-degree murder charges for allegedly shooting a Florida woman in a Fort Myers condominium in early April. The killing spurred a nationwide manhunt and the eventual capture of Riess in Texas days later.
Investigators in Dodge County suspect Riess killed her husband, David, in their rural Blooming Prairie home in March before fleeing to Florida. However, no charges have yet been filed in the Minnesota case.
