Cub Pack 230 held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet Tuesday evening, February 20th at the Mantorville Opera House. The officers of the Restoration Association were guests. John Boggs the new Cubmaster was the master of ceremonies. Leaders were honored and Cubs received awards. Len Barwald, Robin Maxson and their families were welcomed into the pack. Highlight of the evening was the performance by “Frank Linn” magician from West Concord. City founder’s relative pays visit to Kasson
Kasson Bartlett Lunt, great-grandson of Jabez Kasson, founder of our city, spent two hours visiting the Kasson Library and sharing the Kasson family history with Monica French, Library Historian. Lunt was pleasantly surprised to find the city such a thriving community and the library such an integral part of the town. Lunt (also known as Kass or K.B.) informed us that the Kasson name is common to every generation as either a first or middle name. And, that the oral history of the Kasson family has been passed down through the generations as are the family mementos. An example is the Kasson family Bible, a massive tome measuring 12x17 and a “handspan” thick, also a hammered copper pot with 3 bullet holes, supposedly from an Indian raid in this area. Lunt is currently in the furniture business but plans to retire soon for the second time. He and his wife, the former Geraldine Hopwood have 3 children, Leah Kasson, Kevin and Georgia and reside in California. The library presented Lunt with a signed copy of “Tale of Two Cities: Kasson-Mantorville” to commemorate the memorable occasion of his visit.

KoMette Dance team placesat state
The KoMette Dance Team reached the final for Jazz Funk and placed sixth overall at the state meet, held last Friday and Saturday at the Xcel Center in St. Paul. They were ninth in the High Kick competition. There were 12 teams from each section and three sections represented at the state meet. The girls were led into town Sunday for the welcome home by a fire truck and caravan of fans who attended the state event.

Dodge County Youth Hockey 12U Team advancesto regions
Over President’s Day weekend the 12U team was at the District 9 tournament in Waseca. They were playing for a chance to advance to the regional tournament. Friday night’s game against Albert Lea proved to be a fun one. The girls showed off their passing and shooting abilities which earned Dodge County a 6-2 win. Saturday afternoon the girls competed against the skilled 12U from Northfield. It was a battle that was lost, 3-2. This meant two games had to be played and won on Sunday to qualify for regions. The players arrived in Waseca bright and early Sunday morning to face off with Mankato Black. The puck dropped at 8:00 a.m. Little did they know, it would take two and a half hours and three overtimes to defeat Mankato 3-2. The final game was played Sunday afternoon against Rochester. Dodge County came on the ice with confidence and speed, defeating Rochester 1-0. The Dodge County Girls 12U placed third in the District 9 tournament and earned a trip to regions. Regions are held in Marshall, MN March 1-3. Dodge County will play their first game on Friday, March 1st at 3:45pm, opponent to be determined.
