Seven Complete Red Cross First Aid Course
A class of ten hours of instruction in American Red Cross First Aid was recently completed by seven area people. The class, taught by instructor Greg Gille, was successfully completed by Kasson policeman Milo Bjergum, Dodge County Deputy Sheriffs William Weber and Ernest Vanderhyde, Mark Vail of the K-M Schools, and three ninth grade students, Lisa Klossner, Wanda Sager and Vickie Hanenberger. The course included study and practice in bandaging of wounds, burns and their management, shock, and its role in first aid, splinting of fractures, transportation of the sick and injured, and lecture and demonstration in rescue breathing, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (external heart compression and artificial breathing when both heart and breathing activity have ceased to function). With the exception of the three student enrollees; the four male participants will receive further instruction of 16 hours length for completion of the Advanced Course in Red Cross First Aid. In the case of the policeman and two deputies, the further instruction will fulfill a job requirement in their field as police and emergency personnel in that they possess a current Standard and Advanced card in first aid procedures. Further classes, if requested by the public, will be scheduled later this year. For further information, contact the instructor.

New Stoplight Installed
The first pass down Main Street, at the intersection of Main and Mantorville Avenue, motorists were doing a double take. There was something different, a new look. The new stoplight signals have been installed and now it is only a matter of a couple of weeks before they are operational. Last Tuesday a crew was busy installing the four directional stoplights. The project is being done in conjunction with the main street reconstruction project. The lights are not expected to be operational until the final lift of blacktop is laid on the east end of main street. Initially it was believed tht could be as early as mid-October. There was no official word on when the lights will become operational. This will be the first stoplight to be installed in Dodge County. Dodge is the last of 87 counties in Minnesota to get a stoplight.
