Wildcats earn top seed in section tourney
The Dodge County girls hockey team hopes to repeat as Class 1A State Champions.
And their quest back to the Grand Casino Arena starts on Saturday.
The Wildcats, a top seed in the Section 1A tournament, earned a bye, meaning the Wildcats need only two wins to earn a spot in the tournament.
“As the (number one) seed, we look at it as a reward for all the hard work and success the girls had with their very hard schedule this regular season,” head coach Jeremy Gunderson wrote in an email. “In the playoffs, it only means we wear white jerseys every game as in the playoffs anything can happen. We (feel) really good and positive for the playoff run, as we have played the best A and AA schools in the state, and we know we can beat them. We are excited to defend the title and hope to make another title run like the last two seasons,”
In the final regular season home game of the season, the Wildcats defeated Academy of Holy Angels 4-0.
Daisy Harens, Maysie Koch, Willow Harens, and Bryn Spreiter each had a goal in the win.
Goalie Faith Humphrey stopped 15 shots in the shutout win.
