County Truth in Taxation meeting set Thursday

Dodge County will hold its annual Truth in Taxation public hearing on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. in the County Commissioners meeting room in Mantorville.
The public hearing will be for the preliminary budget and 6.9% levy increase adopted in September, according to County Administrator Jim Elmquist. Those amounts were presented on the Truth in Taxation notices mailed to residents several weeks ago, he said.

Byron board says auditor concerns addressed

Byron administrators and school board members say concerns raised in a letter from the state auditor were addressed before it was received.
Officials discussed the letter, as well as measures taken to resolve the issues, during a work session last week.

Dodge County could change to full time attorney

A final decision has not been made, but Dodge County Commissioners are considering making the county attorney position full-time.
The idea was discussed last week at a meeting of the Committee of the Whole, prior to the full board session. County Attorney Paul Kiltinen, who has suggested the move in the past, brought it up again.

Proposed county levy stays at 5.7%

Dodge County’s proposed tax levy for 2026 remains at 5.7%, commissioners were told at last week’s meeting, the final look at it before the Truth in Taxation session on Dec. 11.
The latest draft, County Administrator Jim Elmquist told the board, had updates in the budget primarily in Human Services, Building Operations, and General Government.
