KPD Chief: Register your dogs for your benefit

Kasson Police Chief Josh Hanson addressed concerns about dogs on the loose in the city at a recent council meeting.
“There has been some social media chatter about dogs running loose,” he said. “We’re well aware of it. We issued a lot of citations related to it.
Hanson said they tried to seize some dogs initially, but since 2019 they’ve run into a problem: no vet clinics will take them.

Easter traditions evolve, as most customs do

There’s something to be said for traditions, and especially for the way they evolve.
When I saw the beautiful photos of the annual Good Friday event at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna, I couldn’t help but think of another celebration, and the way it has changed.
In 2001, our little Presbyterian church in Claremont was looking for more ways to celebrate Holy Week with the community at large.

Claremont gambling  spike produces $262K  for area charities

Despite a disastrous outlook a year ago, charitable gambling administered by the Claremont Area Chamber showed a substantial increase in 2025.
Chamber President Dean Schuette reported Claremont had gambling sales of $8.5 million in 2025, which led to charitable donations throughout the region of $262,197 — up almost $40,000 from the previous year. The organization paid $395,398 in state taxes.

Galloway wins national powerlifting title

Kasson-Mantorville senior Leila Galloway captured a gold medal at the USA Powerlifting High School National Championships on March 27 in Killeen, Texas, overcoming missed lifts and late pressure to secure the title.

Jury convicts man in child sex abuse case

A jury has convicted a Dodge Center man of two counts of sexually assaulting a child, but acquitted him on a third.
William Patrick Wyttenback, 54, was found guilty March 27 of one count each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was not guilty of a second count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. All are felonies.
Sentencing is set for June 3.
