Another Snow Day? No, Flex Day! Byron tries out newest way to learn

At the regular school board meeting Feb. 19, Superintendent Joey Page explained to school board members that the district was ready for “flex-learning days” the next time the district had to declare a snow day. He commented that that didn’t mean the flex day would be used the next day but the district was ready, if it did.
And sure enough, the next day, Feb. 20 was another snow day for Byron schools.

Block Kids comes to KMES

There was plenty of creativity from Kasson-Mantorville fourth graders last week as 40 students competed in a Block Kids event hosted by the Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction.
During the evening, students have a limited amount of time to build a structure out of Legos, poster board, tin foil, and string.

Triton students preparing for ‘Technovation’ challenge

Three teams of Triton students, two from the middle school and one from the high school, are busy building apps that will be entered in the upcoming Minnesota Technovation challenge.
Technovation is an international competition that is designed to get more girls interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), said Triton Middle School math teacher Patrick Floryance, the advisor for the students.

The interview process for a new superintendent of schools did not go exactly as Triton School Board members had expected, but at the end of the process the board unanimously agreed to offer the position to Triton High School Principal Craig Schlichting.

Drama program brings Bugsy Malone, Jr. to life at K-M

The Kasson-Mantorville Middle School Drama Program presents its delightful winter musical production, Bugsy Malone, Jr. Feb. 22–24, in the Minnesota WiFi Performing Arts Center at Kasson-Mantorville High School.

When the Byron One Act Play Team began its rehearsals for the one act play competitions in late November, there was no expectations of making it past the subsections.
With a very difficult script to learn and an unusual one act play they would be performing,the expectations internally quite frankly weren’t very high.

Explosive growth leads to closing open enrollment in Byron

At their meeting Jan. 22, Byron school board members voted unanimously to close open enrollment for kindergartners for the next school year. In a later email, Superintendent Dr. Joey Page explained that the district has had to close open enrollment for at least one grade in recent years.
During the meeting, council members discussed the fact that their goal is to keep classrooms full but not too full.
