K-M teen learns new culture as exchange student

Last summer Kasson-
Mantorville junior Andrea Richard had a once in a lifetime opportunity.
After applying for a scholarship through YFU, which is an organization that stands for Youth For Understanding she
was awarded a scholarship to study in Japan for six weeks as an exchange student.

4-H Exchange Program helps kids explore the country

A few years ago members of Dodge County 4-H started a sub group in order to learn about about different parts of the country and to specifically learn about how 4-H is different from state to state.
Kelly Vincelette, Dodge County 4-H Coordinator had done this program in other counties and helped promote it along with helping organizing the idea.
Since then they have traveled to Virginia, Pennsylvania and most recently Kansas.

Kasson-Mantorville Community Ed encourages reading through “1000 Books before Kindergarten” program

In 2014 after receiving a early childhood grant a Kasson-Mantorville Community  Ed Committee came up with an idea to collaborate with the Kasson Public Library to start a national program called “1000 Books before Kindergarten” in the community. 
Ever since then it has been a success. 
Since the beginning of the program in the Kasson-Mantorville community over 142 children and their parents have participated.

Triton Schools Referendum vote scheduled for November

Last year when the Triton School District Referendum votes were counted they came up just twenty-five votes short. 
This fall after revamping the ballot questions the school district hopes that the votes will be in their favor this time around.
One of the main reasons why the school district has been pushing for a referendum for the last three years is due to the lack of funding from the state for small schools like Triton. 

Evolving to build Cobras with Character at Triton

Triton Middle School continues to recognize and highlight students that have done the right thing. As a way to do that, the school implemented its Cobras with Character program to not only encourage students to do the right thing, but also recognize them in front of their peers.

Runner the therapy dog helps kids read at Kasson Library

For two years the Kasson Library had a therapy dog that would visit the library every week to give children an even more positive experience during their story time. 
After the dog and his owner left to move to Wisconsin, the library knew that it would be important to replace him.
With perfect timing they were able to find a newly certified therapy dog in Bryon to fill the void.

Matthew Harfmann is a busy student. The Kasson-Mantorville senior has his hands in many areas including FCCLA, HOSA, student council and being a state-caliber wrestler as well as a class officer, but has still found a way to maintain excellence in the classroom maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
