Triton softball staying positive despite record

Despite a 2-11 record Triton Softball Coach Brandon Neseth and his team are staying positive.
The team is young, with only two seniors and two eighth graders playing varsity, but there have been highlights. Rainey Dobbs had three doubles on May 3 in an 8-5 loss to Plainview Elgin Millville and Gigi Lundi, Addison Oakland, Christine Pearson, and Aubrie Sansonhad had two hits each in a 6-5 win over Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on April 29.
“We’re in a very good softball conference,” said Neseth.  He noted they compete against many players who can excel beyond high school.
Despite being young overall, Triton has its own talent playing on a college field next year.
On Monday, Shortstop Gigi Lundi and pitcher Alyssa Knudson signed to play for Rochester Community & Technical College
Neseth said Lundi and Knudson bring a drive for success, competitiveness, and don’t get frustrated.  He credited his two seniors for staying the course and never giving up.
The players have kept their spirits up by participating in several team activities, Neseth said.  They had a team breakfast at Center Family Restaurant, ditch clean up near Claremont, a traditional after practice Easter egg hunt, and decorated their own buckets to sit on in the dugout.
Neseth is in his second year of coaching softball at Triton.  He previously coached United South Central where the Rebels went 16-6 in his last year coaching there.  The Cobras hosted the Class A #1 Rebels on April 21 and lost 15-0.
Despite ups and downs this season Neseth said he knows there are players at the younger level, and he doesn’t have to look far.
During a relatively cold practice, Neseth’s young daughter watched as she helped shag balls while the team took batting practice.
The players on the team made sure she was safe and obviously enjoyed her presence on the field with them.
“We want to compete but at the end of the day we want to give them positive experiences,” said Neseth.
