Hayfield/Schaeffer Academy falls to NRHEG, Goodhue

The Hayfield/Schaeffer Academy girls basketball team fell to top ranked Goodhue last week 77-61.

“We held an early 6-4 lead four minutes in, but went through a dry spell for six minutes in the middle of the first half when Goodhue built a lead,” Head Coach Kasey Krekling said after the game. “I was very happy with how our girls fought and battled against a fantastic team for big stretches throughout this game, but you can’t have that bad stretch and expect to upset a team like this. It would have been easy to fold, but we stayed competitive and made Goodhue earn this win.”

For Hayfield/SA Maggie Hansen had 11 points, Jenna Christopherson had 11 points, Kenna Rutledge had four points, Betsy Gillette had 13 points, Lily Morrisey had 15 points, andFrieda Rutz had seven points.

In its matchup against NRHEG, Hayfield/ SA was defeated 68-60.

“We worked hard tonight and looked great offensively in the second half, but we had no answer for the Vanmaldeghem twins from NRHEG tonight,” Krekling said after the game. “We cut the lead to one multiple times in the second half, but every time we did that they would hit a big shot to extend the lead. This is a tough loss, but one that hopefully will make us better in the long run.”

Hansen had 16 points, Christopherson had 15 points, Avi Alexander had two points, Gillette had 16 points, and Morrisey had 11 points.
