Hayfield Track and Field looks to improve

Improving each week will be the main goal for the Hayfield girls track and field team this season.

“We have a lot of new athletes out this year so looking forward to seeing what they are capable of this season,” Co-Head Coach Kellie Baker said. “ We want to see improvement from week to week and meet to meet. We want all athletes meeting their personal goals by providing encouragement, feedback, and attentive and informed coaching. We want their track and field season to be a rewarding opportunity and experience. Everything we do is as a TEAM. It doesn’t matter if you are new to the team, a veteran, boy, girl, etc. We always do everything together for practice. It is always great to see the veteran athletes being role models for the new athletes or younger ones.”

Baker listed the following athletes to keep an eye on and who will be key contributors this year:

Breanna Subbert- Is a senior who does sprints, jumps, and throws. She always places in the very top places at each meet and is a talented athlete that can succeed in so many events.

Amber Ziegler- In 10th grade, does well in the jumps if her legs can stay healthy.

Aviana Alexander- In 11th grade, will be strong this year in the high jump.

Hadley Doman- 7th grader that is out for the first time. Already placed 1st in the 800m and 1600m at the Gopher Conference Indoor Meet. I could see her breaking school records in no time. She was strong this fall in cross country as well.

The boys team will also see newcomers this year.

“We have some new boys out for this season which is nice to see. So far, the boys are having fun this season and working hard. The work ethic is really good,” Baker said. “Some new boys out are willing to try new events and learn about them all. The veteran athletes are doing a good job about helping out the new athletes to track and field.”
