Hayfield/ Schaeffer Academy finishes second in holiday tournament

The Hayfield/ Schaeffer Academy girls basketball team lost in a nail biter last Saturday night at the Hayfield Girls Basketball Holiday Hoops Fest championship game.

Going into overtime, the game was tied 51-51 at the end of regulation forcing the game into overtime.

Down by as many as 12 points in the second half, Hayfield/ SA made a comeback to take a 3 point lead at one point. In overtime, Hayfield/SA missed a three-pointer, with a second left on the clock.

“We built ourselves a hole tonight and then played some good basketball for a stretch in the second half to take the lead,” Head Coach Kasey Krekling said. “ We had chances both at the end of regulation and overtime to take the lead, but couldn’t capitalize on our chances. We will need to find a way to execute better down the stretch in order to win these close games.”

With the loss, Hayfield/SA is now 5-4 on the season.
