Byron wrestlers sees success

The Byron boys and girls wrestling teams saw success over the weekend.

At the Dave Scharberg Memorial Tournament, hosted by Byron Thad Zabel went 3-0 in the 215 weight class.

In the second round of the tournament the Bears were defeated by Dover-Eyota 50-14, was defeated in the third round by WEM/JWP 52-20, and lost to Westfield 51-22.

Westfield was defeated by tournament champion Rochester Mayo 40-28, and tied with Dover-Eyota 36-36.

At the Hopkins Athena Invite, Hattie Mathre won the 136 pound weight class for the girls team, while her teammate Madi Hamilton finished third in the 235 pound weight class.

Annika Hall came in second for the 112 pound weight class, Brooke Golish finished third in the 155 pound weight class, Leah Bendix finished sixth for the 142 pound weight class, and Kade Augenstein finished fifth for the 170 pound weight class.

Willa Vicker was the consolation champion for the 112 pound weight class.
