Area baseball teams end their seasons

AUSTIN — The Hayfield baseball team wrapped-up its 2024 campaign with a very respectable16-8 overall record. On Saturday, June 1, the boys lost a tough one to Lyle/Austin Pacelli, 2-1, in Section 1, Class 1A Semifinal action at Riverland Field. Later that day, the Vikings fell to the Southland Rebels, 9-1, in the Elimination Bracket Final.

Bears eliminated from section play

BYRON — Isaiah Brennan pitched a four-hitter and allowed two unearned runs, as No. 3 Byron nipped No. 6 Kasson-Mantorville, 3-2, in the Section 1, Class 3A elimination bracket quarterfinals on Thursday, May 30. Byron had also defeated KoMets, 3-2, in the first round of section play. Brennan struck out seven and walked one. He was also 2 for 3 with a run scored at the plate. Aidan Gross went 1 for 1 with a double and two RBI for Byron, while Ryan Gordon was 2 for 3. Drew Fredrickson went 2 for 3 and had a two-run single, as K-M cut the margin to 3-2 in the sixth inning. Kyle Nelson allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits with seven Ks for the KoMets, who finished the season 12-11.

Byron (13-9) faced No. 4 Winona (11-10) in the elimination bracket semifinals on Saturday at Marcusen Park in Austin. The Winhawks bested the Bears, 4-1, in that game.
