Gerald "Jerry" Papa" Horning, 75, Kasson

Gerald “Jerry” “Papa” Horning, age 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the Minneapolis, VA.

Jerry was born July 2, 1947, in Albert Lea, to the late Russell and Naomi (Ditlevson) Horning. He graduated from Pine Island High School. Jerry served two years in the Army, with one of those years serving in Vietnam. He married Cheryl Brown October of 1971 and later divorced. Jerry worked construction all his life. He traveled to the South Pole – Antarctica, four different times to work construction at the South Pole Research Station.

Jerry was a devoted father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family and church friends. He enjoyed playing Farkle or a good game of cards. He always had time for a hot cup of coffee and a piece of pie.

He is survived by his three sons, Ira (Linda) of West Concord, Glen (Tina) of Sargeant, and Rob of Rochester; two brothers, Lowell (RuthAnn ) of Rochester and Dean (Lonna) of Mansfield, MO; six grandchildren, Corbin, Emily, Connor, Samuel, Jake, and Michael; and three great granddaughters.

He is preceded in death by his son Rick Horning and brothers Dwayne and Roger Horning.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 5, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Kasson. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the VA Fisher House, Minneapolis.
