Fundraiser draws hundreds, nets thousands

Byron Community Foundation’s Craft Beer & Wine Tasting event was held March 31 at Somerby Golf Club in Byron, with more than 200 people attending.

There were about 70 silent auction items available and between the silent auction, sponsors and admissions the organization managed to raise $24,000 to help local non-profits.

It was the tenth anniversary of the event, and funds raised during the Craft Beer & Wine Tasting went to support Byron Post Prom, Byron PTO, Byron Strong, Byron Community Education, Benedictine Community in Byron, Dodge County KoMet Food Pantry in Kasson, Byron Wrestling, Byron Basketball Association, and the Elder Network.

It’s the organization’s largest fundraiser, said Byron Community Foundation board member Don Huston. Other proceeds from the fundraiser go to the Byron Community Foundation Endowment Fund for future, upcoming charitable giving requests, he said.

“The Byron Community Foundation would like to extend our deep appreciation to all our main event sponsors, all of our silent auction donors, along with everyone who attended and supported the Craft Beer & Wine Tasting event,” Huston said.
