Risius, Baumann awarded ‘Good Deed Award’

Hayfield High School Seniors Sydney Risius and Reese Baumann, helped organize a “Mental Health Week” for students.

Each day they had a mental health slogan — “Matter Monday,” “Talk about it Tuesday,” “Wellness Wednesday,” “Thoughtful Thursday,” and “Feel Good Friday.” A poster depicting the slogans decorated the high school.

Every morning, during announcements, quotes and statistics were read over the intercom. A Mental Health Volleyball game was held, with the team writing “You Matter” notes to the opposing team. 988 Suicide Hotline cards were provided to the student body.

American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #330, presented the “Good Deed Award” to Sydney and Reese for their efforts in making a difference in the community. The award was created in 2002 by the American Legion Auxiliary Children and Youth Committee. It is given to children and youth to demonstrate a kind caring act of selflessness.

The American Legion Auxiliary uses it as an opportunity to show deeds as an example to friends, classmates, and family to do selfless acts in their everyday lives.

Sydney and Reese received the award from the National American Legion Auxiliary and a monetary gift from the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #330, Hayfield.

“We are so very proud of Sydney and Reese.”
