Alberts finalist for 2023 Princess Kay title
Dodge County Dairy Princess Mackenzie Alberts has been named a finalist for the 2023 Princess Kay of the Milky Way title. The 10 Princess Kay finalists were announced Sunday after a two-day leadership event.
Alberts is studying agricultural communications and leadership at South Dakota State University. She is the daughter of Eric and Angie Alberts of Pine Island.
She was named one of four Dodge County dairy princesses at the Dodge County American Dairy Association banquet in April.
At the banquet, Alberts said that her goal as a Dodge County dairy princess was to promote the legacy of her family and the dairy industry. She is the seventh generation of the Alberts family to operate a dairy farm in Dodge County.
A member of the Pine Island FFA Chapter, she recently completed her term as state FFA secretary.
Since 1954 Princess Kay of the Milky Way has served as a goodwill ambassador for the state’s dairy industry. Finalists for the title are chosen from among the county dairy princesses, and Princess Kay is crowned the night before the opening of the Minnesota State Fair. The next day, the newly crowned princess has her likeness carved in a 90-pound block of butter. During the course of the State Fair, each of the Princess Kay finalists sits in the refrigerated booth in the Dairy Building to have her likeness carved in butter.
