Santa, Frosty to make West Concord visits Saturday

Two favorite Christmas characters will be making appearances in West Concord this year at the city’s annual community Christmas celebration.

Santa Claus will be at the Farmers State Bank again this year from 9 a.m. to noon to hear the wishes of area youngsters. There will also be a coloring contest and Sharing Tree at the bank. But this year there will also be an opportunity to have a picture taken with Frosty the Snowman.

Frosty will be at 207 West Main St., also from 9 a.m. to noon.

They are just two of the attractions scheduled for the annual event this Saturday.

Much of the activity is taking place at 207 West Main St., the former hardware store location.

In addition to Frosty, the city council will be offering coffee and cookies Saturday morning. There will be a silent auction at the location with final bids due by 3 p.m.

The Fire Department will also be collecting Toys for Tots at 207 West Main from 9 a.m. to noon and until 4 p.m. at Caseys.

Another new event is the wreath or tree decorating contest with trees and wreaths on display.

The day gets off to an early start with Wescon Lanes featuring breakfast specials from 7 to 11 a.m. Wescon will also be offering lunch specials and free bowling from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Methodist church will be selling fresh homemade donuts and candy from 8 to 11 a.m.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a Craft and Bake Sale at the American Legion and a Craft and Bake Sale at the Historical Society the same hours.

Also from 9 a.m. to noon the library will have craft activities for children and there will be cookie decorating at the Police Department.

If weather permits there will be horse-drawn wagon rides by Giesler Percherons from 10 a.m. to noon.

There also will be ice skating at the rink by the Fire Hall all day.

The Charter School will be showing Christmas movies from 2 to 4 p.m.

Local businesses will also have special events.
