K-M/Triton finishes strong in section meet
The Kasson-Mantorville/Triton gymnastics team enjoyed a banner year as they set team records and won its first meet during the third year of the co-op between the two schools. As they continued to improve, they saw their scores rise on a weekly basis and laid a solid foundation going forward.
This past weekend, K-M/T wrapped up its year by competing in the Section 1A meet in Caledonia. While Austin advanced to the state meet with a score of 144.3, K-M/T placed ninth with a score of 116.175 and put a fitting end to a successful season.
“It was a fun and exciting meet,” K-M/T Gymnastics coach Laura Strandell stated. “Our team was missing a few girls who normally are on our varsity roster, but this gave our seventh graders the opportunity to compete and gain experience in a large and pressure-filled meet. I was really proud of how they stepped up and had clean routines.”
After qualifying for state on the uneven bars a year ago, sophomore Cambryn Rubin just missed going back for the second straight year as she placed fifth in the event with a score of 8.525. The top four gymnasts in each category qualify for a state meet.
