Boy arrested in squad car beating

Apparently being parked outside the police station isn’t exactly scared and free from violent outbursts, even if it’s a law enforcement vehicle.

Such was the case over the weekend at the Kasson police station.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with a felony in connection with the beating of a squad car Friday night.

Chief Ken Schuck said officers took the juvenile from Kasson into custody a short time after the incident in which a State Patrol cruiser received more than $3,100 in damages. The boy used a baseball bat to damage numerous parts of the squad car around 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to Schuck.

The boy was detained over the weekend at Mini Rivers Juvenile Detention Center in Rochester and made his first court appearance in Dodge County Monday morning, Schuck said. The juvenile has been charged with felony criminal damage to property.
