Why I am running for K-M school board

To the Editor:

My name is Dylan Soberg and I am running for Kasson-Mantorville School Board. My family and I have resided in Mantorville since 2016. We moved to the Kasson-Mantorville area because it reminded us of the rural communities that my wife and I grew up in, where the community and the school district put the best interests of the students first. My wife and I have two children who are students at K-M elementary and K-M middle school

Community involvement is a priority for my family. I have been involved in the K-M wrestling program since moving to the school district, spending the first three years as a volunteer parent in the youth program, helping kids learn the sport. In 2021, I was asked to help with the junior high and high school programs, while continuing to coach in the youth program. My fellow coaches and I dedicate countless hours, primarily on nights and weekends, to deliver the best experience for every kid in our program.

The most rewarding aspect of being a coach and mentor is seeing the improvement that our kids make throughout their time in our program, not just as athletes, but as students, and as members of our community. I want to apply that passion I have for helping kids pursue their dreams on the mat to giving them the resources they need to pursue their dreams in life.

Our district has a proven track record of providing academic and social opportunities for our students with a focus on producing the best possible outcomes. I will collaborate with my fellow board members and district leadership to promote policies and strategies that provide the best academic and social opportunities for our students. I will support policy that is focused on recruiting and retaining talented staff who are dedicated to K-M’s culture of excellence.

And I will strive for operational excellence; ensuring we allocate district funding that advances the vision and mission of K-M Public Schools, while remaining fiscally responsible to our generous and hard-working community.

I am running for K-M school board because it is imperative that our district continues its commitment to excellence; this approach prepares our students to pursue their dreams and achieve their highest potential. Our district’s leadership and staff exemplify excellence, partnering together to cultivate a learning environment that is enriching, positive, and safe for our students. Our district has the framework in place to continue preparing our children to succeed. I am committed to serving the students and families of our district and will strive to maintain the standard of excellence.

I am excited for the opportunity to represent my community on the K-M school board. I humbly ask for your vote on Tuesday, November 8th.

Go KoMets!
