Steven Allen Morten, 68, Berne

Steven Allen Morten, age 68, of Berne, MN passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 at his daughter's home surrounded by his family.

Steve was born in Rochester, MN to Kenneth and Mary Kathleen (Dunagan) Morten. He graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester, MN in 1973. He held various jobs before starting his career at People's Natural Gas (MN Energy) where he was a service technician for 36 years. Steve married Linda Phelps in 1976. They moved to Kasson where they raised their children. The couple later divorced. Steve served on the Kasson Fire Department for 16 years as a volunteer fireman. He was very proud of his time with the department. Steve was an avid bear hunter for many years, at one point, showing up in numerous local papers for 'bagging' the largest black bear in Minnesota (at the time). Steve moved to his hobby farm in 2009 where he enjoyed gardening and mowing his 10 acres. If you knew Steve, you knew of his constant sarcastic remarks and comebacks, his refusal to 'act his age' and his love of adding humor to anything he could. He loved sharing stories about all the wonderful times that he had with his Reiter/Dunagan cousins and was an avid MN Vikings fan. Steve was given the gift of life in 2017 when he received a kidney transplant after nearly 10 years on dialysis. He was able to have quality time with his family before suffering more health problems.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mary Kathleen Morten; and two brothers, Donnie and Mike.

He is survived by his children, Jody (John) Kreidermacher of Kasson, MN, Jackie Avery of Kasson, MN and Tim Morten (Kristen Senjem) of Kasson, MN; grandchildren, Chelsey Kreidermacher, Kenzie (Ryan) McConnell, Jordyn (Greysen) Deblaay, Rylan Avery; great grandchildren, Weston Deblaay, Hazel Mary Kathleen Deblaay, and Cayden McConnell; siblings, Susan Jones, Nancy (Steve) Youngs, James Morten, Barb Morten, and Patty Morten. Special friend Ruth Anders; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 3:00PM-7:00PM at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes-Kasson (801 7th St SE Kasson MN). Burial will take place at Berne Cemetery in Berne, MN at a later date.
