Dorothy Evelyn Hilliard, 100, Dodge Center
Dorothy Evelyn Hilliard was born on July 20, 1921 in Kasson, Canisteo Township, Dodge County, on the Lewis K. Folkestad farm southeast of Kasson. She graduated from Kasson High School in 1939. Dorothy married Robert Clark Hilliard on August 3, 1941 in Kasson, at the Lutheran Parsonage.
Dorothy and Bob raised three sons: John Robert - born in 1944, Richard Brian - born in 1950 and David Ross - born in 1951.
Her hobbies were reading and saving and preparing new recipes. She enjoyed having coffee with friends and relatives and always had a hot pot of coffee ready. Everyone loved her Lefsa and rolls. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and faithfully attended Sunday services. Dorothy enjoyed the many church functions and participated in many of them.
In 1957, Dorothy and Bob moved their family to Colorado and she began a Home Day Care business in addition to taking care of the family household. In the summer of 1969, they moved back to Kasson, and Bob work for Erdman’s Grocery. Dorothy eventually began a Home Day Care in Kasson.
Dorothy is survived by sons Richard (Toni) Hilliard of Las Vegas, and David (Kathleen) Hilliard of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and twin great-great granddaughters.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Annie Peterson; sister Phyllis Beshman; brothers Richard and Burton Peterson; her husband Robert C. Hilliard and oldest son John R. Hilliard.
Dorothy in her later years took up residency at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center. She had many friends and family who visited often and she very much enjoyed their company, especially Ann Horsman, Dorothy’s late sister’s daughter.
Dorothy passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Fairview Care Center, Dodge Center MN.
She was 100 years old.
The Hilliard family would like to extend gratitude to Fairview Care Center for their attentiveness and loving care.
A graveside service will be held at 11 on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Kasson with Pastor Mary Kaye Ashley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to Fairview Care Center, Dodge Center, MN or to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kasson, MN.
