Wildcats wallop Waconia

After losing their first two games of the season, the Dodge County boys’ hockey team has bounced back by winning their last five games, all by a margin of two goals or more, including last Saturday’s 6-2 win over Waconia.

The Wildcats’ didn’t wait long to score their first goal as less than five minutes into the game Matt Donovan, with an assist by Brendon Wolesky, got his shot past Waconia goalie Mikey Behring to give Dodge County a 1-0 lead.

A few minutes later, Gavin Giesler passed the puck to Charlie Blaisdell who made the score 2-0 with his second goal of the season.

That score held until the end of the first period.

However, in the second period, Waconia prevented the shutout by getting a shot past Dodge County goalie Isaac Dale.

Dale’s teammates had his back as they quickly made for that goal.

Less than three minutes after Waconia trimmed the Wildcats’ lead to 2-1, Isaac Rogne scored off an assist by Cade Spreiter to reclaim Dodge County’s two-goal lead.

Then, nearly a minute after their third goal, Wolesky added a fourth with an assist from Jake Isaak.

The scoring barrage continued when Giesler made it 5-1 on his fifth goal of the season. Miles Smith and Spreiter tallied assists on that goal.

Finally, Waconia goalie Behring got a reprieve when the second period ended.

However, the Wildcats weren’t done scoring just yet. They got their sixth and final goal from Anthony Porisch with assists from Blaisdell and Rogne.

Each of Dodge County’s six goals came from a different skater.

A few minutes after the Wildcats’ final goal, Waconia added one more to make the score 6-2, but by then it was too little, too late.

Defensively, Dodge County goaltender Isaac Dale stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced.

After beating Waconia, the Wildcats’ record is now 5-2.

Dodge County’s next game is a home game against St. Paul Highland Park at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19.

Then, the Wildcats have a week off before they face New Richmond on Thursday, Dec. 26, in the Kiwanis Hockey Festival at Graham Arena in Rochester. The puck is scheduled to drop at 12:30 p.m.
