Relay for Life celebrates 30th year, raises funds fight cancer

As they have for three decades, the Dodge County community came together last Friday night for the annual Dodge County Stroll-Relay for Life at the county fairgrounds.

Relay officials said that the goal for the evening was to raise $93,000. Final totals were still being tabulated but preliminary results showed that more than $115,000 was raised.

Before the official program began at 6 p.m. there was a Survivors Reception and 30th annual history display in the 4-H building.

Again this year, emcees for the evening events were Betsy Singer and Shelley Koen. Opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. included lighting of the Flame of Hope by Survivor of the Year Jerry Suhr and Caregiver of the Year Grant Klennert.

Led by the Kasson American Legion Color Guard, Suhr and Klennert and their families led the cancer survivors and friends, family, and caregivers on a victory lap around the track that was lined with the luminaries that honored and remembered those affected by cancer.
