KM Lions helping youngsters see better

Members of the Kasson-Mantorville Lions Club have long been involved with projects to help improve eyesight. In fact, that is a core project of Lions International.

Now, however, the local group is taking it a step farther with a project that enables the screening of children as young as six months to detect a variety of vision problems.

“If you can’t see, you can’t learn,” said Lion Rose Harris, who has been involved with the project for several years.

The screening is done with a handheld device as simple to use as a digital camera that can screen for common vision problems in seconds. Although it can be used to screen older children, Harris said, it is geared for the youngest children.
