Hop into spring with area Easter egg hunts

Easter egg hunts are scheduled for several communities in our area.

If you’re concerned about your little ones getting trampled at competitive Easter egg hunts, check out the one in Mantorville on April 16 at Riverside Park.

Held at 9:30 a.m., the Mantorville Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event. They will divide kids into four separate age groups for the annual Easter egg hunt. Kids ages 0-3 years old will be in one group, ages 4-5 in another, ages 6-7 in another and ages 8 and up in the fourth.

“The nice thing about the Mantorville Easter egg hunt is that there are four separate hunts, one for each age group,” said Chamber President Terry Eckstein. “Parents don’t have to worry about older children getting in the way of the little ones.”

The other bonus of this Easter egg hunt is that everybody gets something. In addition to the candy in the hidden plastic eggs, the children attending will walk through the park shelter and receive a goodie bag.

This is the 20th anniversary of the Chamber-sponsored egg hunt in Mantorville. Previous years saw up to 180 children participate in the event. This year, the Chamber plans to put out more than 2,000 eggs in the hunting area. Children are advised to bring a bag, bucket or a basket to hold all of their found eggs.

New this year to the Mantorville Easter egg hunt will be free samples of Bunnie’s Coconut Cake, made famous by the departed Bunnie Powers of the Powers family. The restaurant clan took over the Hubbell House a few months back, and has closed the establishment for a massive kitchen renovation. They will re-open this spring.
