Harfmann begins duties as national FCCLA officer

It was an exciting time for Kasson-Mantorville students in the school’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Chapter earlier this summer as they attended the National Leadership Conference in Nashville.

Several of the students from the group attended in person while others participated in the conference virtually.

Whether in person or virtual, one of the highlights of the event was the election of KM Junior Katie Harfmann as national vice-president of finance.

Harfmann said she has been a member of FCCLA “going on four years.” The chapter, she said, is quite large and is integrated into the Family and Consumer Science classes. It is also part of both FCCLA and the Lions Leo organization. The Family and Consumer Sciences classes, she said, aim at teaching students lifestyle skills.

Harfmann said that as a national officer she will serve on the National Board of Directors. She was scheduled to attend a board meeting this month in Reston, Va. And will participate in other meetings and events via ZOOM.

The chapter takes part in numerous service projects, she said, including KoMets vs. Cancer, food drives, a shoe drive and other community service projects.
