New owners and new name for Country Carpets

After 33 years of Country Carpets, the store is undergoing a change in name and a change in owner. 

On Oct. 12, Chuck and Erin Hansen sold Kasson business Country Carpets to long-time employee Sean Malloy and his business partner Angie Bowman. And with this sale, the store’s name will change to Midwest Flooring Solutions. 

The Hansens, who were thinking of retiring, thought that Malloy would be the perfect choice to take over the store when he expressed interest in buying the business.

“Sean has worked here for around 15 years or so and done a wonderful job with it, so it’s his time to take over,” Chuck said.

“We actually couldn’t ask for a better person to take over the business,” Erin said. “Chuck has great respect for him, and Sean has great respect for Chuck, so it’s going to be, I believe, a great transition.” 

Malloy and Bowman have a few changes planned for the store, but nothing drastic. They hope to do some showroom updating, and have already hired a couple of new employees since the beginning of the transition. Bowman’s daughter and son-in-law now work at the store. 

“We’re still local and becoming more and more family-owned and operated,” Malloy said. “There will be more and more people here who care about the business and our customers because they’re all family.”

They are also looking to modernize and expand their reach. 

“A lot of our business is in the Rochester area, and that isn’t well-known, being where we are in Kasson,” Bowman said. “We want to continue having that small town feel, with the small town, but be able to expand into other places as well.”

The Hansens are content with the choices Malloy and Bowman will make as the new owners of Midwest Flooring Solutions. 

“They want to distinguish themselves as the new business, and I think that makes a nice segue because people understand there has been a change,” Erin said. “But the continuity of Sean being with Country Carpets and now the new owner of Midwest Flooring Solutions, we’ve got that continuity there that’s really nice for the community to understand.”

As for the transition itself, Malloy was a little surprised by what went into owning a business. He didn’t realize just how much goes into the behind-the-scenes work in being a business owner. Bowman, a Rochester business owner, has plenty of
