Business organization topic of Dodge Center Chamber meeting

The Dodge Center Chamber of Commerce heard from one of their own last week as Mark Murch, with Scanlon, Murch and Associates, Whitewater Tax & Consulting, Inc. talked to the group about small business accounting.

The basic theme of his presentation was that “you may know your business but does your business entity reflect what is best for you.”

Murch reviewed with the chamber members several things that must be done when starting a business including whether to be a sole proprietor, partnership, C corporation or S corporation and what type of accounting software to use. Which of these entities chosen, he said, impacts taxes and how your income is reported, he said.

“Talk to your account before you get into it,” he said.

Members were also updated on several events coming up in the city in the next few weeks.

Dr.Andrew Klein of Dodge Center Chiropractic reminded members of the annual Turkey Trot, with proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21.

This year, he said, the run will begin and end at the Dodge Center Community Center instead of the chiropractic office. The new location, he said, allows more room for participants to get inside in case of cold weather. Volunteers are always needed on the course, he said.
