Then & Now

In 1949 Kasson and Mantorville each had their own school with the Raiders and Indians sports teams. Mantorville played their football games at Mantor field north of the school and Kasson on the field at West Park by 8th Avenue NW. When Kasson-Mantorville was consolidated with the K-M school built in 1958, the new field by the school was used for many years until the present field was built. Since TV’s were not available yet in many homes in 1949, watching the Minnesota Golden Gophers at the Kasson Bowling alley was one way to see them. The Gophers were the team to watch or listen to on the radio as the Minnesota Vikings did not start until the 1961 season. It was much different with all the college and pro football games broadcast now each week. Ads are from the DCI archives.
